Black Swan State Theatre Company of WA exists to connect artists and audiences through the power of theatre.

Founded in 1991, the company has earned both critical and popular acclaim for its world premiere productions and highly distinctive reinterpretations of international theatre classics – all of which are infused with the unique culture of Western Australia. We provide an annual program of inclusive and accessible theatre productions, commissions and learning experiences, live and on-line, for the people of Perth, across the state of Western Australia, and increasingly nationally and internationally.

Production Intern

12 MONTH PAID INTERNSHIP POSITION

Paid Internship | 3 Days Per Week (22.8 hours – flexible working hours available)

ABOUT THE ROLE
Are you passionate about working backstage behind the scenes in technical theatre, and eager to gain hands-on experience in the industry? Black Swan State Theatre Company and Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company are offering a unique, paid Production Internship designed to equip aspiring theatre professionals with valuable skills, mentorship, and industry connections.

This internship is for individuals who want to build a career in technical theatre, across areas such as set and prop construction, lighting, audio and AV. It does not include any experiences in directing, producing, stage management or performing.

As a technical Production Intern, you will work across productions at both companies, gaining practical experience and insight into professional theatre operations. Supported by experienced practitioners, you’ll undertake tailored on-the-job training aligned with your interests, contribute to a range of projects, and build connections with industry professionals at prominent venues. The role offers hands-on experience in a collaborative environment that celebrates First Nations and Western Australian stories.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The ideal candidate will:

  • have a strong interest in technical theatre production.
  • be proactive, organised, and eager to learn
  • be able to use Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, etc).
