Black Swan creates exceptional theatre for Western Australians, but ticket sales alone don't cover the true cost of bringing bold stories to the stage.

Every donation helps bridge that gap, ensuring we can commission new work, nurture local artists and create extraordinary theatre that reflects the people and stories of Western Australia.

Your support also extends far beyond our stages. In 2025, Black Swan delivered workshops to more than 1,000 participants across regional WA, welcomed 1,950 Perth high school students to performances through subsidised ticket programs, and collaborated with eight Western Australian writers on new play commissions for future years. These opportunities are only possible with the generosity of our donor community.

As a Black Swan donor, you'll enjoy meaningful opportunities to connect more deeply with the work you make possible. Meet the artists you support, experience an open rehearsal, go behind the scenes, and gain unique insight into the creative process. It's our way of thanking you for helping ensure exceptional theatre continues to thrive in Western Australia.

SUPPORT INITIATIVES

Stories connect communities and reflect who we are. With the support of our donors, Black Swan commissions and develops new work by Western Australian writers, bringing local stories to audiences across the state.

Creating original theatre takes years of collaboration, creativity and investment. Thanks to our donor community, ideas can grow into acclaimed productions. Some of our recent commissions include The Shepherd's Hut, Carol, The Pool, and Barracking For The Umpire, as well as much-loved WA classics Cloudstreet, Jandamarra and The Lighthouse Girl. Your support ensures Western Australian stories continue to be told, shared and celebrated for generations to come.

Help create opportunities for the next generation of Western Australian artists. Your support enables Black Swan to identify, develop and champion emerging directors, designers, writers, actors and theatre-makers, ensuring creative talent can build lasting careers in WA.

Through initiatives including our emerging writers' program, paid playwright commissions and graduate traineeships, we provide vital professional pathways and hands-on industry experience. By investing in emerging artists today, you're helping shape the future of Western Australian theatre and ensuring our stages continue to be filled with bold new voices.

Inspire the next generation to discover the power of theatre. Black Swan's Creative Learning Program gives students meaningful opportunities to experience live performance, develop creative skills and explore careers in the arts.

Your support helps provide subsidised theatre tickets, engaging workshops in schools and at the theatre, hands-on learning in acting, design and stagecraft, and workplace experiences that allow students to shadow industry professionals. By reducing financial and geographic barriers, you can help ensure every young person has the opportunity to learn, create and be inspired through theatre.

Great theatre should be accessible to everyone, wherever they live. As Western Australia’s state theatre company, Black Swan is committed to connecting with communities across our vast state and ensuring regional audiences have opportunities to experience exceptional theatre.

Through regional tours, workshops, and school incursions, we bring performances, creative learning experiences and opportunities for connection to communities large and small. Your support helps us reach beyond metropolitan Perth, sharing stories, inspiring creativity and ensuring theatre remains a vital part of life across regional and remote Western Australia.
