2027 Season Kate Champion

Welcome to our 2027 Season

From Kate Champion

Kaya and welcome to Black Swan’s 2027 Season. Four works by Western Australian writers, two lauded international plays and a range of artistic creations which straddle the centuries are awaiting your viewing pleasure.Ā

Across six shows, you’ll encounter the next generation of stars, acclaimed creatives, and venerated industry veterans.Ā

Within these shows, young women challenge the forces shaping their coming of age, a hermit’s closed world is disrupted by a wayward teenager, a journalist is swept into a genre-bending comic mystery, a father’s world has stopped making sense, and four actors deliver over 130 characters in a Hitchcock-inspired farce.Ā

How we see our world is sometimes best experienced in the retelling of tales from the past, at other times it’s the unknown future brought to life by a fertile artistic imagination that equally illuminates our human condition.Ā

While reflecting on seasons past and imagining the coming year, I keep returning to the undeniable reality that none of these shows can happen without complex collaboration and the deep consideration of many minds, hands, hearts, and voices.Ā

As this is my final season as Artistic Director, I want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my tenure. It has been an extraordinary experience, and I will always carry WA’s generosity close to my heart.Ā

I welcome Matt Edgerton wholeheartedly to the Artistic Director’s seat, with the utmost faith that he will bring a wealth of talent and fresh imaginative choices to the seasons ahead and to Black Swan’s important role in WA’s cultural landscape.Ā

There is something reassuring in knowing that the cycle of storytelling will continue beyond our lives. However, it is our responsibility and great pleasure, here and now, to keep the telling and retelling, the imagining and reimagining alive and relevant, not only for our vital cultural health but for the wellbeing of generations to come.
