Black Swan State Theatre Company of Western Australia acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Nyoongar Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live.

First Nations People have been telling stories on this country for many thousands of years, and we acknowledge their incredible contribution to the cultural and environmental landscape we reside in.

Playwriting

For Australian Writers:

With a transition of artistic directorship happening at the end of 2026 for Black Swan we will be pausing our open submission policy.

For Interstate Writers (non-WA)

We will continue to respond to submissions of complete plays that are sent and represented by an agent, or have been produced in a professional context. All other submissions and pitches will be accepted by invitation only.Ā

WA Writers

We will continue to accept full length plays and works from WA based writers. All other submissions and pitches will be accepted by invitation only – or via specifically targeted commissioning programs – like the Piggy Back Draft Commission.

For International Writers

We do not accept pitches for new works from international writers. We only have the capacity to respond to submissions of complete plays that are sent and represented by an agent, or have been produced in a professional context.

For all things playwriting:
  • Produced plays submitted direct or via an agent
  • To book a meeting to discuss ideas
  • Invites to productions of new works
  • Introducing yourself to the company and learn more about Black Swan
