Black Swan State Theatre Company of Western Australia acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Nyoongar Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live.

First Nations People have been telling stories on this country for many thousands of years, and we acknowledge their incredible contribution to the cultural and environmental landscape we reside in.

Your first look at Jacky

Written by Black Swan State Theatre Company 27 August 2026 2 min

Our final show of the year is a sharp, funny and provocative work that dives headfirst into identity, ambition, and connection in contemporary Australia.

Watch the video above for your first look at Jacky by Declan Furber Gillick.

Starring Ian Wilkes, Amy Mathews, Steve Turner and Rueben Mongoo, Jacky follows the story of a young Aboriginal man who skilfully navigates the gig economy, skipping neatly from office internships to cultural performances to sex work. But when Jacky’s little brother shows up unannounced, his carefully compartmentalised lives are thrown into chaos.

We’re looking forward to bringing this bold new work to life with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, and to see what co-directors Kate Champion and Maitland Schnaars have in store for our 2026 Season finale.

Jacky by Declan Furber Gillick is showing at Subiaco Arts Centre from 23 October – 8 November.
