Speaking in Tongues Takes Shape

Rehearsals have officially begun for Speaking in Tongues, Andrew Bovell’s tantalising and spellbinding drama, opening on 23 August at Heath Ledger Theatre. Performed by four powerhouse WA actors playing nine magnetic characters, this enigmatic thriller dives into the tangled threads that bind strangers and lovers alike.

In Speaking in Tongues, seemingly ordinary lives collide through a series of confessions, betrayals, and secrets. Two couples coincidentally meet each other on the same night. A woman disappears. Strangers cross paths in ways they can’t quite explain and what begins as a simple infidelity spirals into a layered psychological thriller about trust, guilt, and the things we don’t say out loud.

This brilliant ensemble has hit the ground running, breathing life into nine characters whose stories reveal just how connected, and fragile we all are. Over the coming weeks, they’ll dig deeper into the heart of Bovell’s masterpiece - unlocking moments that will keep audiences guessing long after the final word is spoken.
