Your First Look at The Shepherd's Hut

Written by Black Swan State Theatre Company 26 March 2026 1 min

Brutal. Haunting. Wild.

This May we are staging the world premiere of The Shepherd’s Hut, adapted by Tim McGarry from the beloved novel by Tim Winton.

Starring George Shevtsov, Ryan Hodson, Ben Mortley and Ella Prince, with direction by Matt Edgerton, The Shepherd's Hut is a raw, poetic and unforgettable exploration of masculinity, isolation, forgiveness, and the violence of hope.

Jaxie Clackton is 15, furious, and on the run from the wreckage of his past. What he finds instead is Fintan MacGillis, a disgraced Irish priest living alone in exile, in a crumbling shepherd’s hut at the edge of the world. The two outcasts form an unexpected and fragile bond. But as dangerous secrets surface, man and boy are forced into a reckoning with their past; each confronted with a life-changing choice.

The Shepherd’s Hut is showing at the Heath Ledger Theatre from 9 – 31 May.
